What Are Three Different Types Of Electronic Components?

To make any electronic application, electronic components play a crucial role. These essential components are broadly categorized in three parts - active, passive, and electro-mechanic.

Each type of component has different properties that play a significant role in the electronic application. The following descriptions explain the different uses and operations of each of these three types of electronic components

Active – These components are used to supply power into a circuit. The flow of current is also sometimes maintained by active components. For supplying power, these components are dependent on electricity.

Devices that use active components include plasma display, nixie tube, LCD, LED, neon, etc. Other devices that are also categorized in active components are octode, microwave tubes, X-ray tubes, photo tubes, discharge etc. Battery, electrical generator, and fuel cells are a few power source devices that are also included in this category.

Passive – Passive components are used to transmit current in the circuit. Resistors like photoresistor, heater, capacitors like film, vacuum, photoflash, and safety capacitor, magnetic devices like transformers, solenoid, microphone, loudspeakers, generator, and assemblies like LCD and oscillator are all passive components.

Besides these, memristor, networks, breadboard, motion sensors, antennas, transducers, sensors, magnetometer, and detectors are a few devices that are also categorized as passive components.

Electromechanical – These are used to complete operations in applications. Without these electromechanical devices, electronic application cannot complete.

Devices that are included in this category include protection devices, mechanical accessories, cable assemblies, terminals, and connectors like socket, pin header, piezoelectric, ceramic filter, crystals, surface acoustic wave filters, resonators, and ultrasonic motor.

Switches are also a part of electromechanical devices. Relay, DIP, micro, limit, circuit breaker, reed, and keypad, are to name a few. In addition, fans, lamps, waveguide, and printed circuit boards are also included in this category.

All these components play a crucial role in electronic devices. Based on the need and requirements of different industries, owners should buy quality active, passive, and electro-mechanic components to use in their manufacturing processes.
